Foolish Operations and the Bulkley Valley Concert Association partner to bring you PAPER PLAYGROUND May 3 - 5, 2019 at the Old Church.

Paper playground is a playful and interactive dance performance where children are free to join in and explore because that’s what young ones do best! This interactive performance is designed for 3-5-year-olds and their parents/caregivers. The children create & move & draw alongside 4 dance artists and a fiddler. The caregivers observe from the sides (mats on the floor/chairs if needed).

Paper Playground is a stimulating experience set on a large paper carpet, created especially for children five and under that is full of dancing, drawing, live music and projections. Fully immersive, Paper Playground welcomes children as true creative collaborators.

Exploring the theme of water with boats, fish, crabs, and sharks, performers use sensory devices and invitations to roll, fall, draw, breathe – to intrigue children into moving with the performers.

Frequently Asked Questions:

I am interested in the French show on Friday, but I am not fluent. Will I be lost?

The show on Friday at 11:30am is bilingual.. this means there is one song in French. The artists are intending to be inclusive of our northern Francophone community. Everyone is welcome! The show actually uses very little language - we move and play and find the performance in the choices of the children.

Can I bring a child under the age of 3?

Artist Julie Lebel responds:

Younger siblings of participating 3-5 year old children are welcomed. Parents/ Caregivers may be asked to keep younger kids close during the performance. We recognize that younger siblings are often used to the playing and slight bumping of older kids.

If you would like to come with a single child slightly younger than 3, consider if the child is generally comfortable with older children. If they are not comfortable, the child may chose to sit with you. Or, the artists may ask you to keep them on your lap as an observer. Watching kids dance is always great, lots to take in, lots to be inspired and bring home with you!

Why this separation of ages 3-5 from younger kids?

The artists of thinking of kids in their developmental learning. Children between 3 and 5 are fast and agile and can get so involved in a task they don't look around for shorter people...sometimes bumping into little kids.

Is there something designed specially for all ages 0-5 years old?

YES! Join us Thursday, May 2nd from 10-11:30am for a workshop for ages 0-5 and caregivers.
